University of Oklahoma Vice President and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione announced Aaron Mansfield as OU's new head volleyball coach on Dec. 22, 2022.
For the 2023 season, Mansfield enters his first year with the Sooners after serving the last six seasons as head coach at Loyola Marymount, leading the Lions to a 94-68 (.580) record and taking them to a pair of NCAA Tournaments. He also served as an assistant coach for the LMU women’s beach volleyball program from 2017-19.
Prior to his time in Los Angeles, Mansfield spent five years on Santa Clara's staff, the last three as associate head coach of the indoor team and head coach of its sand team.
This past season, Mansfield guided Loyola Marymount to 18-10 overall and 13-5 (third place) conference records, and to the NCAA Tournament. Sophomore outside hitter Kari Geissberger was named an honorable mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
New Oklahoma head volleyball coach Aaron Mansfield announced the addition of Brian Thornton to his staff on January 26, 2023 as an assistant coach.
Thornton enters his first season with the Sooners after serving as an assistant coach at Loyola Marymount under Mansfield the past two seasons, helping the Lions to a 35-21 (.625) record.
"I have known Brian for about 13 years and trained with him on the U.S. National Team," said Mansfield, who was hired at OU on Dec. 22. "With his Olympic playing experience and coaching experience, we were able to work together for the last two years at LMU and just know each other really well."
This past season, Thornton helped Loyola Marymount to 18-10 overall and 13-5 (third place) conference records, and to the program's 15th NCAA Tournament appearance.
Oklahoma volleyball head coach Aaron Mansfield announced the hiring of Maddie Beal as an assistant coach/technical coordinator in January 2025.
Beal arrives in Norman after spending two seasons at Michigan State where she was an assistant coach for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Prior to her stint at Michigan State, she was an assistant coach at DePaul in 2022 and served as a two-year graduate manager at Ole Miss, where the Rebels made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010.
Beal was recognized in April 2023 as a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Thirty Under 30 award, which honors up-and-coming coaches at all levels of volleyball. In May 2023, Beal was a participant at the 52nd NCAA Women Coaches Academy, a program designed for women coaches to elevate their holistic coaching effectiveness by learning advanced leadership skills and strategies that directly affect their personal and team success. Participants focus on non-sport-specific concepts in an environment that fosters inclusion across the sports community.
Beal was a four-year letterwinner at Minnesota where she earned Academic All-B1G honors in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Beal served as a co-captain for the Golden Gophers in 2017 and helped Minnesota to a Final Four run during her sophomore season in 2015. After the conclusion of her career in the Twin Cities, Beal joined the beach volleyball program at TCU for one season. Beal's father, Doug, coached the U.S. Men's National Team to a gold medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
New Oklahoma head volleyball coach Aaron Mansfield announced the addition of Meredith Teague to his staff on Jan. 26, 2023 as technical coordinator/recruiting assistant.
Entering her first season with the Sooners, Teague follows Mansfield from LMU, her alma mater, where she served on the staff the past two years in multiple roles and had an accomplished career as a player (2017-21).
"Meredith was actually my first recruit at LMU when I got the job," said Mansfield. "She was a four-year starter and joined my staff immediately after she graduated and really hit the ground running."
The Monroe, Wash., native joined the coaching staff ahead of the 2021 fall season, serving as interim assistant coach before assuming roles of technical coordinator and director of operations. Teague also added responsibilities to lead summer camps in 2022.
